A little bit about Pleat and Bobbin....

Hello and welcome!  I’m Martha, the one-woman show behind Pleat and Bobbin.  I’m a Canadian living in the Scottish countryside, a toddler mum, and a professional sewer.  I’ve worked for over 10 years as a costume maker in television and theatre, but I also have a real passion for making kids’ clothes, especially since becoming a mum myself.

I think that dressing your baby or toddler should be fun!  Since having my daughter I’ve gotten really bored of the plain pale pink and blue clothes that are available for kids.  Our little ones are full of personality and their clothes should be too: bit quirky and really special. I also think that kids’ clothes don’t need to cost the environment, and that they should be able to survive many washes and lots of exploring!

And so I’ve created Pleat and Bobbin.  Everything in this shop is handmade with an eco-friendly and sustainable twist.  I up-cycle pre-loved curtains, use factory surplus fabrics, and save all my scraps to turn into reusable wipes, bibs and breast/chest feeding pads.  It means that fabric is saved from going in the bin, and new materials aren’t being consumed.

Everything I sell is fun but practical, and so my clothes are soft-play tested for fit by my own toddler.  Also as a mum who cloth-bummed, everything is cloth nappy compatible!  Reusable wipes, bibs and breast/chest feeding pads are all made from my mum experience.

I’d love you to stay in touch!  Check out the FAQs, and make sure to follow along on Instagram or Facebook.  You may even see your order being made!
